Not playing older games

Did anyone happen to see on the news this morning that they are already having trouble with the PS3 and it hasn't even been released yet. One of the things they said that made the system so expensive was that it had the ability to play all the PS1 and PS2 games. Well this morning I heard that it will only play some of them. They didn't go on to say how many or which ones though. Did anyone else hear this? I was just wondering if they planned on fixing this or if this is just the way it will always be?

I heard about it too. I think I remember them saying something about developing downloadable fixes, but that the fixes are not even guaranteed to work.

Re: Not playing older games

It's really the other way around, it's not playing "some" of them; all of the american big websites (gamespot, IGN) didn't have any trouble with backward compatibility yet. Even though, I assume that for the few games that it errors out, that patches will make it all better

Re: Not playing older games

It's rather confusing, because they basically chucked a whole PS2 system in the PS3 to guarentee backwards compatibility, and it seems to have messed up somewhere along the line.

Re: Not playing older games

I have heard about this going on too. What is the point then if you cannot play your older games?

Re: Not playing older games

Exactly...so how does the price justify buying the PS3 if it can't play PS2 and PS1 games...IT DOESN'T!
