PS3 Shortages? /wink wink

It seems like Sony wants to fit in.

There were 360 shortages. There are definitely Wii shortages. I'm not sure about you, but I could have picked up a PS3 by now if I wanted to, but apparently Sony thinks I can't.

Honestly, I think the PS3 is a fine system. That being said, this is a rather underhanded marketing tactic. This is the type of stuff that's shaking my faith in Sony, hopefully they don't go the way of Atari.

"April or May is when we feel like we're going to catch up to demand and have product fully in stock across North America and stay there," said Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Asked about widespread reports on video game Web sites that stacks of unsold PlayStation 3s are a common sight in many electronics shops, Tretton told Reuters in an interview that the console was still out of stock in some areas three months after its November launch.

"It's a testament to the fact that we've been able to manufacture and ship units on a greater pace than any previous console," Tretton said.
"Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves. If we have empty shelves, that's one less consumer who could have bought a PlayStation 3," Tretton said.
Sony's PlayStation 3 is the cornerstone of the consumer electronics giant's strategy to dominate home entertainment.

The PlayStation 3 -- which costs $500 or $600 depending on features -- has a hard drive to store game data and music, and can play DVDs using Sony's Blu-Ray high-definition technology.

I don't think PS3 is worth the money right now, might wait about another year or so and decide if I'll get one. Definately not on the top of my priorites list right now.

Sony came out and said that they don't believe in lowering the price, which is unfortunate. I'm a starving uni student, but I had to split the PS3 with my friends, it was absolutely too much. If they dropped it, I know so many more people that would get them, but they don't seem game for that.

I was in a Best Buy in Northern California last week, and the store had a huge display of all the PS3 systems it had in stock; however, the location was sold-out on both the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.

Perhaps, it is not the shortage of systems that is Sony's problem, but the shortage of buyers.

There are PS3 shortages...at least there were...not now though...but they aren't being bought like how Sony wished it would be.

I wont be buying it until Final Fantasy XIII comes out. Then I'll be all over it.

Re: PS3 Shortages? /wink wink

The PS3 price had dropped but I still wouldn't buy because I already have a 360. And it has the same graphics but I got it for a lower price. And microsoft didn't even put a price drop because they're already selling out at their regular price. ~GA
