Xbox 360 Out Doing The Rest?
It has been a great year for gaming fans with new gaming consoles like the PlayStations, the Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii, and it was an even better year for the industry. Though the older models are continuing to out sell the latest and greatest consoles.
With the gaming market off to a flying start early in December. The research firm NPD Group says the Nintendo Wii sold more that 1 million Wiis within 6 weeks of release, where the Microsoft Xbox 360 sold 1.1 million Xbox 360s in December 2006. Sony is not doing so well though, over the Xmas period Sony sold 1.4 million older versions of the PlayStation 2 and only sold 491,000 PlayStation 3s over Xmas , was this Sonys fault for not making enough PlayStation 3s befor Xmas ? Over $12.5 Billion worth of gaming hardware and software, accessories was sold in 2006 that makes it a new world record. Top sold games are as follow's ..... Madden NFL 07 For PS2 was top with over 3 million sold copys. New Super Mario Brothers For the DS handheld was runner up. Last but not lest Gears Of War for the Xbox 360 was in 3rd place. Is 2007 going to be a better year for gamers and the gaming market ? |

Well the 360 is doing good partly due to Gears Of War and the upcoming Halo 3, as well as it's amazing Xbox Live + marketplace. It's rival will probably be the PS3, but that doesn't mean it's better than the Wii.
If the Wii had better graphics, and if they tuned up the Virtual Console a bit, it could def. be a competitor to the 360 and the PS3, and probably better, because of the motion sensor controls. I've heard of people buying the 360 only to get the arcade games sold in the marketplace (which are pretty good ) |

If you look at those stats that you posted it’s still saying that more ps2’s were sold than Xbox 360s in fact .3 million more! Now for a console that’s apparently not as up to date as the 360 that’s doing pretty dam well, lol
And then you have to look at the fact that the PS3 is not released in the UK yet, but only in the US and Canada (I think) so it’s not surprising that the sales of that did not match the other two, but once it is released in the UK you can almost guarantee that sales will fly through the roof and destroy the 360 and wii because to date Sony have also done so and will do again imo. |

I'll be buying it
Infact I nearly paid around 800 to have one imported when they were released but decided against it as I needed to keep some back for my holidays this year, lolI think that most people will be in the same boat as me and just buy it to be ale to say "Yeah I have a PS3" Plus when the Xbox 360 was released for the full package of that was about 500 unless I'm mistaken and they flew off the shelves, I believe that the wii has massively missed out on a huge profit margin by selling that at such a low price compared to Microsoft and Sony. |

Well of course it's in the lead at the moment but the Wii is catching up fast.
About 4/5 million Wii's have been sold worldwide, and Nintendo's target is 6 million by the end of March so I think it will be close between the 360 and Wii with the PS3 behind. |
