PS3 too expensive?

Let's face it, at the moment the PS3 is way more expensive than it's rivals: the Xbox 360 and the Wii. Question is, is it worth the extra money?

My personal opinion is not really. Xbox has more practically the same quality games as the PS3 and the Wii obviously has the motion sensor aspect. So there is nothing to make the PS3 stand out amoungst the other consoles - except if you want specific games that only come out for the PS3 which I don't think are many. The only one I can personally think of is the last Final Fantasy they are producing which I think will only be for PS3.

What are your opinions and is it worth the money?

What you need to remember is that at the date of launched consoles are always at a premium price. If you can bare waiting half a year the price will fall quite dramatically you will get a good deal.

Don’t forget that the Xbox 360 has had an entire year on the market compared to the newly launched PS3. For me personally the PS3 ahs by far the best game lineup but I suppose that’s a matter of personal taste.

Having owned a PS1 and 2 im waiting for the price to fall before I buy the PS3. From Sony’s past experience im expecting a great machine.

Way too expensive but its a Sony so it will sell. There is a large "fan" following of the playstation line and since its a SONY it has a certain brand name factor so it will regardless of price still sell very very very well.

The thing is. Sony has lost a lot of there fans to Xbox 360 and Wii. Consoles are supposed to lower there price over time. Sony decided they would switch things up in Canada and make the price from 649.98 to 699.98 this is an obscene ammount of money that is not even that great.

How many of you own a PS3?

Until supply starts exceeding demand at the current price point, the price will stay the same. Once PS3's start sitting then the prices will drop. Being the first to have a system costs a premium. I usually wait until the 2nd Xmas season to buy a system.

Lenny no offense. But it seems that you are in old times. I can go to the local wal marts, best buys, future shops and find PS3's sitting on the selves so the supply and demand thing is already met..so they raised the price instead of lowering it.. because they thought it would help there sales.. do you agree?

I think Sony have left it too late to join the party this time especially in Europe, and thats a big mistake on their part, sure their fanboys will be out in force to get it but I imagine they have lost a big chunk of market share to the Xbox 360.

The ps2 is still outselling ps3 in japan which implies that the high price has not gone down well with the people. I am sure once they iron out the manufacturing issues and the cost of the blue laser diodes falls the prices of the console will fall too. However microsoft and nintendo by then would have also managed to cut manufacturing costs. It would be very interesting to see which console comes out on top and i sincerely hope that its the games which decide the next gen winner .

I think it's expensive to be completely honest. I can see it's a great console i'm a huge fan but for me to spend that amount of cash is to bad for me. I can't afford it and if i'm going to save up it wont be for a PS3.
