Getting world of warcraft

my friend is giving me his world of warcraft because he cant play it.
I need to know do u NEED to put a credit card number in? Because thats what he said and thats y hes not playing it. I was just planning on buying time cards

If you do need to put credit card in ill just sell it and buy a 360 game...
