Nintendo's future
Does anyone see the resemblance between Nintendo’s DS strategy In the handheld gaming market and their strategy in the console market?
They seem to be going for innovation in the usability area with both machines, as the Wii has the movement controller and the DC the dual screen thingy with the touch pad. Is it a wise move not to compete of graphics and performance? Do they risk getting left in the dust?

Yeah, that is correct, Nintendo makes fun, popular games, they have their niche and with the right tournament organizers they could literally dominate. The hand held DS does not need complicated graphics, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is doing very well as are the Naruto and Yugioh games. You may not like these type of games but the future is with young gamers. my two cents

One thing that Nintendo really has never been successfully challenged in is their dominance in the handheld system market. The Gameboy/Gameboy Color/Gameboy Advance still out sold the many current and failed attempts by other companies, such as Sony, Sega, and Atari. With the mediocre games out for the PSP, the DS's existence as the rooster doesn't seem all too threatened.

Re: Nintendo's future
Sony has just announced a "lite" version of their PSP...but I don't think it will even come close to outselling the DS and DS Lite.
So far, the Wii does seem to be a good turning point...it is a uniquely controlled system with games that appeal to a large demographic. |

A large demographic - that's good, FourBear. You sound like a sales person. LOL
I just don't think Nintendo will be shaken from their position. And with the Xbox 360 having major problems, that'll only solidify them in that position. |

*Raises hand* I've still got an SNES! Granted I've had 3 different ones over the years but the second one held out for at least a decade! I've had one in the house ever since they were released and I got one when I was 10 years old, 23 years old now!
