Virtua Fighter 5

Virtua Fighter 5 will feature an all-star cast of 17 fighters, including characters from the previous iterations along with two new characters named El Blaze and Eileen. El Blaze is a Mexican fighting champion who defeats opponents with his quick Lucha Libre fighting style. Eileen, originally from China, uses a Monkey Kung-Fu fighting style that she learned from her grandfather, a former Kung-Fu master. Players will be able to customize their characters by selecting from four uniquely patterned costumes and a wide range of attachable items that can be placed onto each fighter's various body parts.

Virtua Fighter 5 will deliver fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action as players head into battle, taking on a host of popular characters. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but also by competing for prizes which will earn them in-game money allowing them to buy many items at in-game shop. These items allow players to customize their ultimate warrior and become the top Virtua Fighter.
New "offensive move" system: Strategic fighting is the order of the day with the new Offensive Move, meaning you can attack opponents from the side. Breathtaking HD quality graphics: Stunning graphics and amazing new landscapes showcase the best of the next-generation hardware. Unique character moves and fighting styles i.e. we have Individualized martial arts moves and styles for each character.

As you might expect, the huge range of items that players can toy around with alters their fighter's look pretty drastically. Users can unlock or purchase an incredible number of costume alterations and add-ons ranging from standard jackets and shirts to the more exotic swords, shurikens, and face masks. Even better is that gamers can now customize four different costumes for a single character instead just two, and you can save up to 30 unique characters per game.

The meatiest and most addictive option, of course, is the aforementioned Quest mode -- which is essentially a beefed up version of the like-named Kumite revamp from Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. Its premise is simple: take one of the characters you've customized above and throw them into the wild and wacky world of arcade dominance. Illustrated with a surprisingly old-gen menu interface, the city is shown as an icon-based map that allows competitors to hop from virtual arcade to virtual arcade.

Speaking of progression, you'll be invited to participate in local tournaments for extra goodies or head off to the area to fight in official tourneys. Victory in all of them increases your standing, unlocks more stuff, and ups your win percentage. But if you don't feel like competing, you can always head back "home" and re-costume your character, input a special motto, or post specialized emblems next to your name bar.

AM2 has also done a great job of presenting each fighter's visual look so that no two character models look the same. Seeing Jeffry or Wolf stand next to El Blaze is like watching The Undertaker wrestle Rey Mysterio -- that is, the size and mass differences are immediately noticeable and say a lot about their personalities.

Having played with the near-final version of Virtua Fighter 5 for several hours, we definitely miss the option to go online and compete with other players. After being spoiled by other online brawlers like Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive in the months and years prior to VF5's release, the lack of internet play quickly became a sore spot for this game.
