i'm not sure of the story behind it but you were this kid and you would walk around in a 2d sidescroller and there were zombies and other monsters that would try to kill you while you collected candy. i distinctly remember disembodied hands that would jump at you. what is the name ?

Could be 'Magic Pockets'? You ate a lot of candy there that came out monsters. Classic Bitmap Bros game :P
