Do I have to use the Microsoft XBOX 360 wireless adapter exclusively? Will an alternative wireless adapter from another manufacturer work? Such as DLink, Linksys, Belkin etc...?

What do you mean by "exclusively"?

If you mean to try and hook up to LIVE, all you need is a wireless router, and yes. Linksys and DLink should work, because I have Linksys myself. But you also need a cord to connect to the router and to your Xbox.
