Need Advice on RAM
Hey all, Im updating my computer to slightly newer hardware with some of my Christmas money I recieved last year, I have already bought myself a nice new 320gb SATA HDD to add on to my existing 200gbs, and I am hoping to get some new RAM.
However, the memory standard on my board is 667mhz, and the new RAM I want to get is 1066mhz. I understand that my motherboard will automatically underclock to meet its memory standard. What I would like to know is, is it possible to overclock the RAM way past the memory standard, and how hard would it be on the motherboard (in terms of decreased lifespan, if any) to push it back up to 1066 or even up to 1200 (Reported stable OC speed). Motherboard: Foxconn 945P7AA-8KS2 LGA 775 Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail* New RAM: Transcend AxeRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail* Is it right to get this RAM, then OC it up, or am I totally off my rocker here? (Please note, I dont get money all that often, too young as of yet to get a real job, so dont suggest getting a new Mobo along with it, I had enough problems last overhaul) *Look these products up on Newegg since Im not allowed to post links yet.
