There are two different Guitar Hero II controllers for the 360. One of them, reportedly, has a serious whammy bar problem.




Gamers who've just picked up the new Guitar Hero II game for the Xbox 360 have started reporting an issue with the whammy bar on the controller. Apparently after not much use at all, it becomes unresponsive. What good is a music game if the controller breaks in less than 24 hours? Not much use at all.

According to initial reports, there are two slightly different versions of the new Xbox 360 guitar controller. The version with the pedal port near the power cord is the one with the issues. Gamestooge explains the situation as follows:

"...the guitars with the pedal jack next to the power cord have the whammy problem, whereas the guitars with the pedal jack on the bottom of the guitar (when stood on its end) are problem free."

One user also reported that Target is not selling any of the extra controllers as they are showing up as "Recalled" in their system.

We hope to find out soon if the extra controllers really are recalled. Stay tuned for further updates.

Update: The story has hit Digg, and various other sites. It seems the issue is fairly widespread at this point. We await comment from Target, and the game publisher.

Update #2: Thanks to some helpful readers we have established that there are two different part numbers representing the two different versions of the controller. Those with part number 95055 on the box have the controller that supposedly has the whammy bar issue.

Part number 96065 on the box is the controller without the issue, apparently.

Are you reffering to the white 360 Guitar controller?
If so then I have one that has a cord and so far no real unfixable whammy problems, I did have to snap it back into place so that it would come back up when pushed down. Other wise no real big problem. I suggest however that you get the Guitar Hero III Guitar, it is more smaller and less bulky then the Guitar Hero II guitar and that makes playing the game alot easier to deal with.
