Forum based games

Has anyone ever played a forum based game before like an rp battle? or something much like caladon is doing in the writing section?

I have played a many a rp battles in my day, not saying i'm good, though it is a good way for writers to get into the head of a character, and different fighting styles.

And I am also working on a forum based game that is much like the board game diaplomacy. If i ever finish the calculator for the game and get thorugh the beta, I could set up a link for those interested.

I wasn't sure where to put this. It is a game, yet the games can improve ones writing...

Nice ideas, there are possibly maybe perhaps plans in the works for a forum rp section. I have just made suggestions to the other staff, but nothing has been settled as of yet.

Re: Forum based games

I ran a regular Vampire TM game on IRC Quakenet back in 2001 for about a year. That was quite fun.

Re: Forum based games

The only forum games I played in were in a movies forum and there were constant attacks on the members by the other members and you had to build your rep and power. It was not much of a game in my opinion, kind of boring. I have seen some other games but they were on a script and you would battle with your character, but the computer always decided the outcome somehow.

Re: Forum based games

It can be a really fun experience but I find it usually has to occur in a controlled environment. Too many trolls and people messing it up. I like private forums and the people who want to play can be added to the group and if you mess crap up you can be kicked out. Forum survivor is pretty cool too, you use various challenges like 'Create the best banner for this site' and such and then have the rest of the forum vote on them and the person who wins can't be voted off. It's pretty fun.

I've posted once on a game-themed forum where the forum itself fed into another game. Posting gave you money, which could be used for items in the real game.
